Kids & Mail Art (2)

The animals made by children weren't alone!
A nice add-and-return mail art project with young artist involved is the project of Kathy De Wit from Antwerp (Belgium).
I read the call for entries on the IUOMA network forum, and am happy to finally have been able to add our flat to Nesta's house. With some more added, but that's not in this picture. To reveal as soon as Nesta will have received it.

Kids & Mail Art (1)

[please scroll down for the English translation]

'Painting Gerberas in the desert, for Nini,

'RobotHond en OctoBot', voor Viktor,
'RobotDog and OctoBot, for Viktor,

'Agent Tapir and the crook are driving through the Mail Forest', for RashidxMan.

My own carreer in Mail Art began when I was about 14 years old, although I had never heard of that name in those days. A friend and I sometimes sent eachother mail, in a 'decorated' envelop. We were classmates so basically it would have been faster to just hand our post. Though the 'real post' was appealing.
A 'project' in which we fully made use of the phenomenon 'post', was a single postcard, which we completed and on which we added both our addresses and a stamp, and put it into the letterbox. And then waiting, wondering to whom of us the postman would bring it. I was the lucky recipient. It's a pity I never preserved this card (I think), for now it would have been my personal 'collector's item'. Well, even analogous post may be temporary...

Back to the 21st century. Nowadays several children deliberately are exposed to Mail Art, thanks to their teachers, at school or a club.
At the IUOMA forum there's a 'Kids & Mail Art' topic. And Andy from My Real Wall started this website for school teachers to exchange their mail art projects.

Last autumn I received an email from Greet from 't Frank Model, as a response to my project on Real Weird Animals, asking if I'd appreciate to receive animals made by her pupils and then send something back to them. I gladly accepted.
And with some delay, now the first three (of six) postcards are sent to the kids, you can see the results (and links to the kid's own mail art works) above. Actually it turned out to be a kind of 'add and return', with keeping - and cherishing - the originals.
The other three postcards will come up soon.

Mail Art Exhibition

From February 20th the entries to the Mail Art project 'Collecting' will be shown in the library exhibition in the Van Abbemuseum of contemporary art in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.
Miranda Vissers invited mail artists to contribute to this 'Collecting' project, and received many entries from all over the world.
These are shown online, too, but if you happen to be in or come to the Dutch province Noord-Brabant, be sure and take a look at the originals!

My contribution you can find somewhere on this page. - if you know which one, send me a description of this collection, and your address, and I'll send you a postcard size colour drawing of one of my collected objects in return!).

From the Sketchbook series (3)

Two pages from the first sketchbook - titled 'This is not a Sketchbook' - with a contribution inspired by Patrizia's beautiful project (which I like to announce). Though alas this bottle went to Brooklyn, USA, instead of Starnberg, Germany.
Patrizia, please have some more patience, the announced one will arrive on day (hopefully this month)!

From the Sad Fish series (2), from the Sketchbook series (2)

Today I finally finished one of the two sketchbooks for the 'Sketchbook Project' and sent it by snail mail to overseas.
The second one to finish still has lots of blanc pages, while the deadline is January 15th...
The theme of this second sketchbook is 'Lines and Grids', and thinking of 'grids' also this one appears in mind. Alas with sad consequences for our swimming friends...
(Sorry, Salina!)
