Why did the chicken cross the road?

On instagram I found Torafish's account.
He makes beautiful photos, and besides that, he collects a certain sentence in all languages: 'Why did the chicken cross the road?'.
Not the answer to this question, but the question itself. He collects these to add to his 17 cm x 10.8 cm sketchbook.

So far he didn't have the Dutch version, so I drew and wrote him this.



(Fortunately there was extra room on the envelope, as I couldn't resist to have the chicken think of the answer..)

Two crows in a row

Kraaien en hun familieleden behoren tot mijn favoriete vogels (tezamen met nog verschillende vogels meer), en toevallig waren er twee mensen die ik wel een kraai wilde sturen.

Crows (and their relatives) are among my favourite birds. This week there happened to be two people to whom I wanted to send mail art and who unconsciously 'invited' me to draw a crow for them.

Puffins

I am not sure if these Puffins have arrived already. I've send them in December 2014, the Tufted Puffin (on top) to Hana in Japan, and the Atlantic Puffin to Denise in Canada. They might have got lost during their long flight, or, better, maybe they've met their family on their way, and just decided to stay there.
I see it before me, two drawn puffins standing on a rock above the see, surrounded by real puffins!..

Urban sketches

For the LEP August swap I received a sketchbook from Meredith from the USA, to fill with some urban sketches and to pass on to Sarah in Hamburg, who will pass it on to Britt, Britt to Caroline (all in Germany) and finally the filled sketchbook will fly back again to Meredith. Great idea!



Thinking of 'urban sketches' I thought I had to sketch houses or any other kind of urbanization. However, I am not really able to draw buildings. Fortunately there are also mailboxes in the cities, and birds.



And no-one has forbidden me to add a tram ticket :-)
So finally (almost four weeks after the deadline, sorry sketchbook pals!) I managed to fill my pages.



By the way, 'Wildlife in the city' you can also find in Erni's blog, his pictured pigeons happen to live in Hamburg. the next stop of this sketchbook.

Flying Butterflies and Birds and Mail

'Vliegende vlinders en vogels en post'. Alweer 'n tijd geleden begon ik aan deze tekening. Pas nu kwam het er eindelijk van 'm af te maken, en naar Suus in Mokum te sturen.
Buiten begint de herfst, en ineens zag ik in mijn ooghoeken ronddwarrelende blaadjes op deze tekening, maar nee, ik tekende toch echt fladderende zomervlinders :-)

'Flying butterflies and birds and mail'. Already some time ago I started to create this one. Not before now I'm having some time to finish it and to send it to Suus in Mokum.
Outside autumn has reached our country, and suddenly I imagined I had drawn flitting leaves, but no, they still are fluttering summer butterflies :-)

Knit card and birds stationery

Made for my May Swap Partner at the LEP, the League of Extraordinary Penpals. Maybe just writing (during 7 days) would be enough, but I couldn't send my words without also adding some mail art (above) and some handmade stationery (below).
It appeared hard to colour such an amazing-coloured bird the right way, so why not send it as a colouring picture so the receiver can add colours to her own taste?!..

Dit weekend nog meer muziek. Dankzij Eva's blogbericht ontdekte ik de website van Anke. En omdat zij sleutels blijkt te sparen, kon ik het niet laten om onderstaande tekening voor haar te maken. Helaas kon ik haar geen echte sleutel sturen, de meeste gebruik ik gewoon, en eentje zit vast... aan een gitaarspelend kleipoppetje.

This weekend I created another musical instrument. Thanks to Eva's blog post I discovered Anke's website 'Snail Mail Magazine'. When I found out that Anke collects keys, I couldn't resist drawing this guitar player to send to her. Alas I couldn't send her a real key, because most of my keys I'm using to open doors, and the un-used one has been sticked to a guitar playing clay puppet...

Woodland Animals

Dankzij Eva ontdekte ik een nieuw mail art project: 'Stuur een glimlach'!
Bedacht door Micu uit Boedapest en Jennie uit Stockholm, met als doel om mensen in nood een glimlach te bezorgen, door ook zelf creatief bezig te zijn met envelop en brief (of kaart, in mijn geval).

Thanks to Eva I discovered a new mail art project: 'Mail a Smile'!
It was started by Micu from Budapest (Hungary) and Jennie from Stockholm (Sweden), with the aim to send smiles to people in need, by being creative ourselves by decorating envelopes and letters (or a card, in my case).



Je kan zelf een glimlach bedenken, of je laten inspireren door een bepaald thema, deze keer 'Woodland animals'. Wat ik in eerste instantie vertaalde als diertjes die in hout leven, maar na wat googlen bedacht ik dat het gewoon bosdieren zullen zijn.

You can think of a 'smile' piece of mail art, or, better, have yourself inspired by the actual theme. The theme of the first 'challenge' is Woodland Animals. I first thought that it would mean 'animals living in wood', but later I realized that these might be all animals living in the woods (forest, 'bos' in Dutch). So I'll send this one, too.

Blijk ik aan de ene kant nogal langzaam te zijn met het beantwoorden van add-and-return mail art, toen ik het verzoek van Fraenz Frisch kreeg om iets toe te voegen aan zijn e-add-and-return mail art, was het binnen een paar uur klaar!
Deze collage is van de hand (en computers) van Keith Bates, Fraenz zelf, RCBz, Paul Tiililä en mij.

I appear to be rather slow in replying to add-and-return projects in snail mail. Meanwhile I surprised myself (and maybe dear Fraenz Frisch, too) by replying to this email add-and-return request within a few hours!

M'n mail art verstuur-activiteiten zitten de laatste tijd helaas wat op 'n laag pitje. Intussen ben ik 'achter de schermen', tussen alle dagelijkse drukte door, gelukkig wel bezig met het máken, van een mail art serie. Getiteld 'Waar is het bos gebleven?'.
Deel 1 (links, met zeehond) en deel 2 (rechts, stempelontwerp) zijn inmiddels verstuurd. De zeehond naar Haldjas, de zwart-wit tekening naar Ryosuke Cohen.

Last months I've been sending almost no mail art at all. Meanwhile I was and am busy making a mail art series, called 'Where has the forest gone?'.
Part one (you see on the left, with seal) I've sent to Haldjas. Part two (the black and white drawing / stamp design) is on it's way to Japan, to Ryosuke Cohen.

I still can't see it!

Altijd leuk om mail art per post te ontvangen. Maar... frustrerend als je niet weet van wie! Uit Engeland, aan de postzegel te zien. Even dacht ik aan het MyRealWall Head Quarter. Of toch niet?.. Help!

Always nice to receive mail art via snail mail. However... it's frustrating when one doesn't know who the sender was. And from where? The UK, according to the stamp? One second I thought it might have been sent from the MyRealWall Head Quarter. But I'm not sure... Help!
